Tales of Summer: Part I

Once upon a time, school was out and summer began. Logan headed off to summer camp in Muskogee, OK. It was a full week away from Mom and Dad being a "world traveler" as he learned about computers, guide dogs, Louis Braille, visited an animal hospital, and various other events. This summer camp was sponsored by the Oklahoma School for the Blind. Logan's favorite part of the week was building a computer. He enjoyed putting it together and then making sure it worked. He also enjoyed the other students and the staff that made the week a success.

Here we come San Francisco! After summer camp, we packed up the car and headed out west. Our destination was Legoland and San Francisco with stops to visit family along the way. We stopped in Grants first for a couple of days. We relaxed the first day after a long drive and also not to have mom do too much. The Riverwalk was one of the sites we visited. It was fun to go to the Riverwalk and attempt to fish. The fish taunted us as they swam close to the surface and stole the bait, but refused to stay on the hooks. It was a very quick visit, but we knew we would be stopping back through for a couple of days. We then headed out to Las Vegas to see Mike, Jesse, and the kids.

Las Vegas was hot, but it was a nice dry heat compared to our humid heat in OK. We had a "dam" good time as we stopped at the Hoover Dam. It was amazing to see this man made wonder and to imagine that they were able to complete it in the time frame that they did. How people come up with these ideas is beyond me. I have a hard time trying to help Logan with Legos, much less figure out how to build something like the Hoover Dam.

We celebrated Logan's birthday in Vegas and took a tour of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and then headed downtown to M&M world. Logan loved both but really got a kick out of seeing a replica of Kyle Busch's M&M car. Logan enjoyed the strip with all the outdoor escalators and amazing buildings. Logan's birthday is also Uncle Mike and Aunt Jesse anniversary, so we helped them celebrate their day. The adults got to take a ride on the New York, New York roller coaster. The kids were disappointed because the tallest of the six were still too short to ride by about an inch or two. We had lunch at El Diablo, a Mexican restaurant (Logan loves me) and also visited the Coke museum and tried coke products from around the world. We all headed back so Mike and Jesse could change to go out for their night. They saw "Jersey Boys" and loved it, while the rest of us hung out out the house.

We spent another day in Vegas to see the sights and just enjoy being with the family. I loved being able to play all the board games that we did, while the kids enjoyed their free choice :)

We headed out of Vegas to go to Carlsbad, CA where Legoland is located on James's birthday. What a birthday treat for him...getting to drive in CA traffic :) Sorry, but I wasn't going to do that.
