Pine Wood Derby

Logan was so excited to particiapte in the pinewood derby with scouts.  He had been designing his car since he recieved it.  I admit I did tell him he needed to draw it out before we actually started to cut.  After several drawings and revising, he decided on a design.  James and he went to cut it out at the boy scout hut.  After the saw, broke with the first scout, they went to buy a jigsaw and dremel tool.  Now we are ready for the many pine wood derby cars to come :)

Logan and James set up the stuff on the back table and began cutting.  The design had changed since I had last seen it, so it is obviously always a work in progress.  After the cutting it was time to sand and use the dremel tool.  Logan enjoyed sanding and trying to make it nice and smooth.

Due to time constraints and James's upcoming TDY, James did the finishing touches with painting, putting on the weights and the stickers.  Logan loved to see the finished product.

The pinewood derby was right up Logan's alley with his love of cars and race tracks.  He loved to put it in the starting block and then go down to the finish line to watch it cross.  There were 16 Tiger Scouts participating, so there were lots of heats.  

Logan won 2nd in a couple of heats and 10th place overall.  

He also won the people's choice awards of having the "Hottest" car.  Check out the "hot rod" with those fantastic yellow wheels :)
